The Annual Conference in Gothenburg – As Seen by ECM Members
175 delegates attended the Conference and they left with a better idea of what it will take to be truly successful as an international meetings and events destination in the future, focusing on sports events, meetings, festivals & cultural events. All members were able to contribute to the seminar through breakout sessions moderated by professional academic experts.

If you missed the Annual Conference in Gothenburg and would like to get a flavour of what it was like, just read the personal impressions of of some of those who participated in this inspirational Swedish-style meeting . We asked them a single question:

From a professional point of view, what did the meeting in Gothenburg bring to you?

\n
The Meeting in Goteborg was a very nice opportunity for the exchange of professional experiences and contacts.

At the moment, in our complicated situation – as regards the decrease in tourism – there was the possibility to compare and to study. Being confronted with other people‘s ideas and discovering that our problems are similar helped to innovate and rejuvenate my opinions. For me, learning about new trends and their precise characteristics taught me how to be stronger.

To me, the Annual Conference in Gothenburg was successful in many ways – socially as well professionally. The fruitful combination of thoughtful practitioners and practical academics worked out perfectly and was the one thing that truly made the difference for me. All the speakers from both theory and praxis were engaged and inspiring. The possibility of using their perspectives and ideas in the discussions during and alongside the conference program made room for identifying new challenges, new ideas and new solutions.

The Gothenburg meeting was excellent as regards the professional content of papers and presentations.
\n
It was a very good idea to hear professional academics who are used to speak and explain in front of large audiences. The topic was fresh and I got not only new colleagues and friends, but a lot of new ideas to absorb, to teach, etc.

I like to hear and see the results of international surveys. I’m sure that only an international organisation can develop the best survey on an industry topic because of the large professional membership. Surveys can inspire you to act when you see the results of others, or can reassure you that you are on the right path. For this reason I appreciated the last ECM survey.
\n
I’m sure that ECM is on the right track, the Gothenburg meeting was a good and a big step for that.

For me especially the possibility to network with my collegues who are responsible for the TICs in European Cities is very inspiring. It helps so much to see your own position from another perspective. I always come back from the ECM meetings invigorated and with a bunch of new ideas and I’m looking forward to implementing in Berlin, an idea which came up during the round table sessions in Gothenburg.

Gothenburg was a great experience for me. Thanks to the break out sessions, which is, by the way, a great idea, I was able to exchange knowledge and experience and come to new views. Break out sessions should be an obligatory element for ECM meetings. Although we all meet at exhibitions, there is not so much time there to network in a relaxed atmosphere as there was in Gothenburg.
