The 9th European City Tourism Monitor – Positive outlook continues for the 2nd quarter of 2011

The 9th European City Tourism Monitor - Positive outlook continues for the 2nd quarter of 2011 According  to  the  9th European City Tourism Monitor which monitors the expert views of the city  tourism professionals, tourist bednights in  the 2nd quarter of 2011 is expected to show a year-on increase, as compared  to  the  same  period  in  2010.

‘Positive expectations’ outnumber ‘negative expectations’ by 71 percentage points (60 in the last survey).  International markets appear to hold out more promise for growth than domestic ones. The leisure segment seems to account for much of this optimism, but confidence in the business segments is also being expressed.  In terms of international source markets, experts continue to be most bullish about growth in the German market, but other markets such as the French and the Italian ones are also expected to perform well.

Expectations relating to the trend in hotel rates vary between growth and maintenance, depending on the regions of Europe.

There is also a substantial amount of confidence that bed nights will continue to exhibit moderate growth throughout 2011, at a rate of between 1 and 5%.
