In 2012, IMEX celebrates 10 years of excellence in an ever-changing industry and a more challenging world. Among the key events, the IMEX Politicians Forum to be held on May 22 also celebrates 10 years of successfully uniting politicians and the business events industry for further understanding, co-operation and mutual benefits.

The IMEX Politicians Forum is co-organised by ECM (European Cities Marketing) and AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) and held under the auspices of JMIC (Joint Meetings Industry Council). Supported by the German Convention Bureau (GCB), the Frankfurt Convention Bureau, Messe Frankfurt, MEETINGS:review, Brähler and Sixt.

Political Support for Business Events is MORE Vital than Ever to a Destination’s Success

The IMEX Politicians Forum, arguably the most important and influential event of its kind, is committed to highlighting the social and economic impact of business events on a destination.

Each year, some 100 business event industry leaders including 30 politicians and government officials, representing local and regional government in Europe, Africa, North America and Asia Pacific come together during IMEX, the essential worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Politicians Forum will showcase a powerful collection of case studies highlighting how political engagement has led to a destination’s success, providing a clear definition of business events as an economic and political resource. This year it will showcase a collection of case studies from several destinations – each telling a vivid and motivating story of how they have used business meetings and events to create jobs, generate wealth, encourage private sector investment, increase leisure tourism and expand the local knowledge economy.

During the Politicians Forum you will also have an unrivalled opportunity to engage in discussions with economic policy leaders from across the world on the benefits of business events to a destination’s economy.

• Keynote speaker, Nick de Bois MP, will talk about the success of Britain for Events, an annual campaign designed to raise awareness of the full economic, scientific and cultural benefits delivered by the meetings industry to the UK

• Mr Uwe Becker; Frankfurt City Treasurer and Mr Nick Greiner; Former NSW Premier and current Chairman of Infrastructure NSW will demonstrate how their destinations have used business events as a resource to achieve specific government objectives.

• Jerry Sanders, Mayor of San Diego – Will explain, in an exclusive video interview, how he turned the city into the biotech city of the world and created 40,000 new jobs. Since 1989 San Diego has used business events to put an extra 18 billion USD into the city’s economy.
