A new handbook from the European Travel Commission is in production and will focus on product development. As in the near future this will be of increasing importance to DMO’s in developing tourism to their destinations, ECM will support the project enthusiastically.
\n
The handbook will be presented in a sequential format reflecting the phased and evolving process of planning, and elaborating what and who is involved in each phase. It will identify the appropriate institutional structures and systems that need to be put in place; the framework to be installed to guide sustainable tourism product development – regulations and planning procedures, data gathering and market research, consultation processes, public-private sector liaison, one stop shop/incentives to encourage private sector investment; and the phased process to be followed to arrive at the product development plan.
\n
\n
The handbook will, of course, present some best practice examples. For this, we would like to include some member-city case studies.
\n
\n
Therefore this call is for members who have had a good experience of product development in their cities, whether this be their own product development, or an example executed by others in the city.
\n
\n
Please do not hesitate to send us your ideas of best practice with a couple of lines describing the project/development phase, the outcome and the year of accomplishment. If you have any questions, please contact ECM Head Office by email (headoffice@europeancitiesmarketing.com). Please respond by 1st of August.

Conducting research into various markets for tourism to Europe is a major activity undertaken by the European Travel Commission’s Marketing Intelligence Group on behalf of its members and partners. ECM is now a partner, contributing financial assistance and expertise to support the valuable work of this group. Studies, reports and other research resources which have been prepared or co-ordinated by the ETC are listed below. Thanks to our partnership, members of ECM are able to obtain the reports with a reduction of 45%.

Further reports and trend analyses can be downloaded free of charge from the ETC website (
www.etc-corporate.org). Those which are publicly available are indicated by a hyperlink. Please mention clearly that you are an ECM member when ordering through their site.
