European Cities Visitors’ Report

European Cities Visitors’ Report “The European Cities Visitors’ Report”, is of great use to all city destinations. In what way? We asked the members of the Benchmark group for their opinions…

For five years now a group of cities called “The Benchmark Group”, created within the European Cities Marketing organisation, has produced, published and marketed a statistical report which analyses the European market for city tourism and benchmarks the performance of more than 100 European cities. Their work, known as “The European Cities Visitors’ Report”, is of great use to all city destinations. In what way? We asked the members of the Benchmark group for their opinions…

\n

How does The European Cities Visitors’ Report help you do your job more effectively?

\n

\n

"The ECV Report was a valuable source of information when working on Amsterdam’s new Strategic Marketing and Communication Plan 2009-2012: it helped us to identify trends and make choices about the key markets in which we should invest.

\n

One of the possible developments of this project is to transform the ECV into an online tool which would make it possible to intensify the use of the data. Anything which would enable users to get more out of this gold mine would be of particular interest to us."

"How has my city performed in the last 5 years? Did the same thing happen in my competitor cities? How did my main source markets perform individually? Are my policies towards them visible in some way? Are there areas where those markets behaved differently? Where are my opportunities? Where are my threats?

\n

The ECV Report has the answers to all these questions, providing you, in the clearest way, with information that helps you monitor your position, evaluate your strategy and adjust your tactics.

\n

Note: the CD accompanying the report is pure gold."

"As I am in charge of Market Management, the source market analyses are very valuable to me. Market managers can use the data to benchmark with chosen competing destinations."

"The ECV report is a really precious tool for benchmarking our activity. Not only by evaluating the efficiency of our competitors but also by widening our knowledge of really important source markets. And although in France we have a proverb, ‘comparaison n’est pas raison’, which suggests that comparisons are unhelpful, this report helps to make our politicians and decision makers realise the importance of tourism in a city like Paris and the way it should evolve."

"As a city tourism board, we need to have relevant information about the evolution of urban tourism in Europe, so that we know where we are playing. For example, is the overall number of arrivals still increasing? Or how do the different markets behave?
The European Cities Visitors’ Report is a good example of this, so it is important for us that ECM supports this kind of initiative."
