From April 29th to May 3rd, the best experts in radiation oncology in the world will gather at Lingotto Conference and Exhibition Centre for the 35th international ESTRO Congress (European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology): 6,000 delegates, coming from over 80 countries, are expected in the main hotels in the city centre and in the Lingotto, which are already sold out. This extraordinary congress, attended by top-level international professionals, is estimated to engender between €10 and €12 million in economic impact.
The convention is coming back to Italy for the first time after 26 years. The previous one took place in Montecatini in 1990 in the early years of the ESTRO Society. Turin has won the bid in 2014, over Glasgow and Copenhagen, thanks to what proved to be a winning team: Turismo Torino e Provincia Convention Bureau, Umberto Ricardi MD -professor at the University of Turin and director of Radiation Oncology Department of ‘Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino’ – the Mayor of Turin and GL Events (that runs Lingotto).
Now, the Convention Bureau is working to give the best welcome to the participants: each delegate will receive a city guide and a customized city map with all the useful information to facilitate the staying in the city. A welcome desk at the airport and a stand at the Lingotto will be set-up to promote the city and to provide the delegates with useful information and tourist brochures. Finally yet importantly, the Convention Bureau will carry out a customer care survey during the congress, to draw the profile of the participants and exhibitors but mostly to assess whether they will return as tourists after the event.
Turismo Torino e Provincia Convention Bureau is the organisation for promoting the province of Turin as a destination for conferences, conventions, incentive travel and business travel.
